  Quiet Quitting:
A Cross Generations Phenomenon
Even though it's been talked about a lot, quiet quitting is nothing new.

"Your worth, as a person, is not defined by your labor." Zaid Khan, a young engineer in his 20s, uploaded the video on his TikTok account. The video quickly garnered a mixed response and started the term quiet quitting. It's been almost a year since this term enlivened social media. So what exactly is quiet quitting?
Quoting from Investopedia, quiet quitting is when a person does his work to a minimum—not giving more time, effort, or enthusiasm than is necessary. Reading the above definition will make you realize this is not a new phenomenon but was only discussed a lot (especially on social media) last year.
Before making negative judgments about quiet quitting, we must look at the reasons behind it. This phenomenon has several reasons, but the most dominant is the desire to achieve work-life balance.
Looking back, citing The New Yorker, this phenomenon in the office also occurs across generations. The baby boomers see work as a barrier to self-actualization. As a result, they seek value outside the organizational structure.
When Millennials were born, they were directed to find jobs they appreciated. Pursue passion, but remember the responsibilities that must be fulfilled. A job is a tool to achieve life goals.
Then came the younger ones. Gen Z entered the working world with hazy boundaries between cyber and real life. Everything in their life is monetizable by turning it into social media content.
When the pandemic came, disruption to the working world hit hard. Email, chat, online meetings, everything is done in private rooms. When these things invade personal circumstances, it is unsurprising that they require boundaries between personal life and work, which was then popularly known as quiet quitting.
What must be considered is that doing work to a minimum and without enthusiasm will prevent you from enjoying the time you allotted for work. Eight hours a day is certainly not short. To resolve this, discover why you feel burnt out or out of touch with your passion. Then, overcome it by consulting with friends/experts or trusted online sources. You are a resourceful generation, after all.
