In addition to its function, each building has significant differences in construction. Each building uses bore pile foundation construction with a depth of 12 meters with a suspended slab floor type. A bore pile foundation is a type of pile foundation that is installed by drilling the ground first. This foundation is generally used in construction projects with the choice of implementation method depending on the type of soil, terrain conditions, and the construction method used.
In particular, the Geoconservation building uses a steel pipe frame roof with a metal sheet roof covering. On the other hand, Geodiversity and Geoconservation buildings are dominantly finished with epoxy floor coverings.
Technology in Development Projects
In the process of building this project using bore pile machine technology for bore pile work on deep foundations and retaining walls.
Bore Machine is heavy equipment used to lift material vertically. It is generally used in drilling bored pile foundations, combining a crane and a drill. The term "bore" refers to the function of the machine as a drilling tool for bored pile foundations.
In addition, there is also additional slope reinforcement using the shotcrete method and soil nailing. In the steel pipe for roof truss work on the Geoconservation building, the fabrications workshop was carried out using the segmental method of 12 m combined in the field of three segments into one series of truss lanes with TC (Tower Crane) lifting.
Challenges Faced
During the construction process, the condition of the clay shale soil became a challenge for Insan Hutama Karya. This challenge causes force majeure on the retaining wall. Clay shale is one of the various soil conditions in Indonesia. This soil consists of a sedimentary rock formed from fine-grained soils such as clay through a sedimentation process. In contrast to most clays, which will swell when wet and shrink when dry, clay shale is very hard when closed. Meanwhile, when the condition is open, this soil condition will be quickly eroded or weathered and cannot harden again.
To overcome these challenges, knowledge sharing was carried out with experts, so that various suggestions and input were obtained and the project continued running smoothly. One of the solutions implemented is the retaining wall work carried out again with reinforced ground anchors, shotcrete, and soil nailing.
Future Hope
There are many lessons learned with the completion of this project, one of which is the importance of knowing complete soil data. Especially for work on the land with hilly contours that have high elevation differences. Hutama Karya hopes that the existence of this building can provide many benefits for Indonesian geological and rock research, especially in
the Karanggulung area. Apart from that, you can also add
to the list of educational tourism areas and geoconservation around Kebumen. More than that, the existence of this area
is expected to provide benefits in the form of added value for the surrounding community so that the economy can increase, especially from the tourism sector.
LIPI's Geodiversity Area can benefit Indonesian geology or rock research.
