Processing The Trash in The Rest Area into Organic Fertilizer
PT Hutama Karya (Persero), through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, HK Cares for the Environment, using the Black Fly Soldier (BFS) method for the Waste Management Unit (UPS) in Rest Area 215 B Toll Terbanggi Besar Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung (Terpeka).
EVP Corporate Secretary Hutama Karya, Tjahjo Purnomo,
said, through this program, two superior products would be produced, namely organic fertilizer and BSF larvae. In addition to having two products of economic value, this processing can also reduce the amount of waste. The organic waste treatment unit does not only function to reduce the amount of organic waste around the rest area. Still, it can be used as a recreational and educational facility for toll road users who want to know how to process organic waste properly. It also reduces the operational costs of processing organic waste in the Rest Area KM 215 B of the Terpeka Toll Road.
The idea of this organic waste processing program is expected to run smoothly and successfully in creating an independent society while at the same time creating new business opportunities by utilizing organic waste in Terpeka Rest Area 215B.
GPS Collar To Monitors Sumatran Elephant Movement
Hutama Karya also supports the preservation and survival of Sumatran elephants that live around the Elephant Crossing Underpass (UPG) of the Pekanbaru-Dumai (Permai) toll road by preparing a Global Positioning System (GPS Collar). In collaboration with the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) and the Rimba Satwa Foundation, a GPS collar unit was installed as part of the Company's commitment to safeguarding the sustainability and survival of Sumatran elephants through the HK Cares for the Environment program.
Tjahjo Purnomo said this program is a concrete manifestation of the implementation of the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program - Pillars of
Environmental Development. In addition, it protects wild animals whose populations are increasingly threatened, especially the Sumatran elephant. According to Tjahjo Purnomo, this is a direct directive from Indonesian President Joko Widodo and SOE Minister Erick Thohir regarding the importance of State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) in building infrastructure that maintains the preservation of nature and endemic wildlife that live around it.
